Anthropic Releases Claude Fable 5, First Generally Available Mythos-Class Model
Anthropic released Claude Fable 5 (model ID claude-fable-5) on June 9, 2026, distributing it the same day across the Claude API, AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, Microsoft Foundry, GitHub Copilot and IDEs such as Cursor. The model reports an 80.3% score on SWE-bench Pro, compared with 58.6% for GPT-5.5 and 54.2% for Gemini 3.1 Pro.
Fable 5 is the safety-gated public version of Anthropic's Mythos-class tier. A new safety classifier detects sensitive cyber, biology, chemistry and model-replication queries and automatically falls back to Claude Opus 4.8 in fewer than 5% of sessions. The unrestricted Claude Mythos 5 remains limited to vetted partners through Project Glasswing.
Pricing is set at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, roughly double Opus 4.8, with a 1M-token context window. Anthropic cited a case in which Stripe migrated a 50-million-line Ruby codebase in a day. The model is included at no extra cost in paid plans through June 22.

Anthropic will hold a hands-on event, Claude Fable 5 Build Day, in San Francisco on June 13. Participants will choose problems worth tackling with Fable 5 and build solutions using Claude Code, with Anthropic staff on site.
