OpenAI says its default ChatGPT model, GPT-5.5 Instant, now matches its frontier reasoning (Thinking) models on health-related questions and is available to all users, including free ones, the company announced. The model rolled out on May 5, 2026, replacing GPT-5.3 Instant, and is offered via the API as chat-latest. In June, OpenAI emphasized further health-focused improvements, saying it had reached scores rivaling its frontier models on internal evaluations such as HealthBench, as detailed here.
