A new study by consulting firm Bain & Company shows that corporate cost savings from AI investment are falling well short of expectations, renewing market anxiety over whether the huge sums will ever pay off. The "Automation and AI Pathfinder Survey 2026," conducted in April 2026 across 951 global companies with more than $100 million in revenue, found that while 37% of firms had expected AI to cut costs by 10-20%, 40% of those that measured results achieved 10% or less, and only 4% reached savings above 30%. In its report, Bain cites companies saying "the technology worked, but the value didn't arrive."
