Baidu CFO Henry He (Haijian He) has described in a published interview how the company transformed into a "full-stack AI player" that vertically integrates everything from its search engine to in-house AI chips, large language models, cloud, and self-driving cars. Having risen in China's search market in the late 1990s, the company ramped up AI investment around 2010 and, amid the rise of generative AI, has built a structure spanning hardware to applications under its own roof.
