Researchers at ETH Zurich and EPFL have built a particle-detection system that reconstructs the three-dimensional paths of charged particles from only a handful of photons, using a light-field camera, single-photon sensors and a Transformer neural network instead of the millions of segmented sensors found in conventional detectors.
