Zhipu Co-Founder Argues Frontier AI Should Stay Broadly Accessible, Not Controlled by a Few

Tang Jie, co-founder and chief scientist of Chinese AI lab Zhipu, has argued that frontier artificial intelligence should remain broadly accessible rather than concentrated in the hands of a select few, entering a widening debate over the risks and governance of ever more powerful models. In a company memo, Tang contended that genuine security arises not from technical barriers but from broad participation, sharing and oversight, pointing to Zhipu's decision to release its most advanced model as open source under a permissive license.
