Survey: 36% of Japanese students submitted raw AI translations as coursework

A survey of 535 university students across Japan found that 36.3% (194 students) had submitted AI-generated translations directly as answers for foreign-language coursework. The findings come from a study conducted online in August 2025 by Sachiko Kimura, a professor in the German department of Dokkyo University's Faculty of Foreign Languages, and were reported on June 20, 2026.
