Google and Microsoft Advance WebMCP, a Browser Standard Letting Websites Expose Tools to AI Agents

Google's Chrome team, working alongside Microsoft's Edge team, is pushing forward WebMCP, a proposed web standard that lets websites publish structured tools AI agents can call directly instead of guessing their way through a page. The effort, now moving into an origin trial in Chrome, aims to replace the brittle screenshot-and-click approach that agents rely on today with a cleaner, machine-readable interface built into the browser itself.
