Cursor Said to Be Building General-Purpose AI Agent 'Sand' to Move Beyond Coding

Cursor, the fast-growing AI coding company, is developing an internally code-named general-purpose AI agent called Sand, a bid to expand beyond developer tools and into the broader workplace, according to a report. The move would position the company, formally Anysphere, in more direct competition with Anthropic's Claude Cowork and OpenAI's ChatGPT Work as the three converge on the emerging market for autonomous work assistants.
