Sunrun (Nasdaq: RUN) has begun a Distributed AI Compute Pilot Program that installs small edge-computing devices in homes with solar and battery storage, using their available power to run AI inference workloads and paying participating homeowners for the capacity. The company formally launched the effort on July 8, 2026, positioning existing rooftop energy assets as an alternative to slow, capital-intensive centralized data centers.
