Claude Code Adds Native Support for Automated Agent Loops

Anthropic's AI coding environment Claude Code has officially built in a set of native features for "Loop Engineering," a practice in which AI agents run tasks autonomously and repeatedly. The move pushes development away from the traditional model of a human typing one prompt per turn and toward one where humans design loops (automation systems) while the AI iterates on tasks by itself.

Claude Code now ships Loop Engineering as standard — repeatedly running and self-verifying agents. Patterns developers once built with custom shell scripts are now first-class, in-product features.

Proponents

Boilerplate that used to need custom scripts is now standardized. Repetitive tasks realistically run unattended — plug into GitHub Actions, Linear and Slack via MCP.

Skeptics

Loops can burn more tokens than expected and drive up cost. Unattended runs risk shipping bugs with high confidence — verification sub-agents and human review still matter.
