EU to Require AI Eye-Tracking in All New Cars From July 2026

The EU will require every new car (categories M and N) registered in the bloc from 7 July 2026 to carry an "Advanced Driver Distraction Warning" (ADDW) system that uses in-cabin cameras and AI to continuously monitor a driver's gaze, blinking and yawning. The mandate rests on the General Safety Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2019/2144) and its implementing act, the Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/2590 published in November 2023.
