The US Commerce Department has directed Anthropic to halt foreign nationals' access to its frontier AI models Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5 over national security concerns, prompting Anthropic to suspend both models for all users, including those in the US, to comply. According to Bloomberg reporting, the department asked the company to cut off access to its most advanced models for all foreign nationals inside and outside the US, and Anthropic said in an official statement that it had suspended access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 while leaving its other models unaffected, as announced. Company executives met with Commerce officials around June 16 to seek removal of the restrictions.
