OpenAI and Google (Alphabet) have been providing advanced AI models and services to the Singapore-based subsidiaries of Chinese tech firms Alibaba, Baidu and Tencent, all of which appear on a US Pentagon blacklist, according to a Financial Times report. Both companies confirmed the facts to the FT, underscoring the risk that cutting-edge US AI technology may reach Chinese firms indirectly, outside the reach of export controls.
