Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced Fastnet, its first fully self-owned transatlantic subsea fiber-optic cable connecting Maryland in the US with County Cork, Ireland. With a design capacity of over 320Tbps, it is slated to begin operations in 2028. The cable will run from the eastern shore of Maryland and land at Owenahincha Beach in southwest Ireland, with a terrestrial segment extending to a landing station about 6km away.
