As US restrictions on advanced AI chip exports to China tighten, Chinese firms are accelerating a shift from Nvidia's leading GPUs to domestic alternatives, with Huawei and other local players now supplying nearly half of the country's AI accelerators. The backdrop is the US Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), which since October 2022 has effectively banned exports of advanced AI chips at or above the A100/H100 class and progressively tightened the rules.
