Anthropic and OpenAI File for IPOs as Pre-Listing Rivalry Sharpens

Anthropic filed a confidential draft Form S-1 with the U.S. SEC on June 1, 2026, and about a week later, around June 8, OpenAI made a similar confidential filing, making clear that the two leading generative-AI companies are moving toward initial public offerings (IPOs) in parallel. Anthropic secured the option to list first, reportedly carrying a valuation of about $965 billion after its most recent funding round. Following suit, OpenAI is said to be targeting a valuation of up to $1 trillion, with an IPO that could come as early as September 2026, according to reporting.
