Bank of England (BOE) Deputy Governor for Financial Stability Sarah Breeden warned on 30 June 2026 that autonomous AI agents (agentic AI) risk triggering a "market meltdown" in financial markets, and said tighter regulation and governance frameworks may be needed. She made the remarks during a panel discussion at the European Central Bank (ECB) forum on central banking in Sintra, Portugal, as Bloomberg reported.
