Moonshot AI Unveils Kimi K3, a 2.8-Trillion-Parameter Open Model, at Shanghai's World AI Conference

Chinese startup Moonshot AI has released Kimi K3, a 2.8-trillion-parameter Mixture-of-Experts model that it bills as the world's first open model in the multi-trillion-parameter class, positioning it directly against closed systems from OpenAI and Anthropic. The model was debuted around July 16, 2026, at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, with API access available immediately and full model weights slated for public release on July 27.
