OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Becomes Preferred Model in Microsoft 365 Copilot

OpenAI and Microsoft on July 9 began general availability of OpenAI's latest model family, GPT-5.6, as the preferred model in Microsoft 365 Copilot. It is available in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Copilot Chat and Copilot Cowork, jointly optimized by both companies for knowledge work. Sam Altman, OpenAI's CEO, also said the same day that GPT-5.6 had become the preferred model in Microsoft 365 Copilot.
