The U.S. Department of Commerce has approved a broad public release of OpenAI's new GPT-5.6 series, Axios reported on July 8. Since late June, the models had been restricted to a limited rollout for government-approved partners over security concerns, but after additional testing and talks with officials the restriction was lifted, with general availability set to begin July 10.
