Japan and Nvidia to Build 'World-First' National AI Factory With 27,500 Rubin GPUs for Physical AI

Japan is teaming up with Nvidia to construct what the companies describe as the world's first national AI infrastructure, deploying 27,500 next-generation Rubin GPUs to power a sovereign, multimodal foundation model for robots and physical AI. The project, announced by Nvidia on July 16, 2026, pairs the chipmaker with Noetra Corp., a newly formed Japanese industrial consortium, and is backed by the Japanese government through the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and its agency NEDO.
