Data Centers Turn to Small Reciprocating Engines for On-Site Power

As the AI boom strains power supplies, data center operators are increasingly turning to small reciprocating engines for off-grid electricity, boosting orders for makers such as Innio, Caterpillar, Rolls-Royce and Cummins. The Wall Street Journal's "Heard on the Street" column reported that deploying these cheap and readily available engines on-site is becoming a realistic alternative to waiting years for a grid connection.
