Alphabet's Waymo has filed a recall with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) covering about 3,871 self-driving vehicles, citing a software flaw that could cause the cars to enter closed freeway construction zones and keep driving at speed. The affected vehicles run the "Fifth Generation Automated Driving System (ADS)," and Waymo will deploy a free over-the-air (OTA) software update to strengthen location detection and improve recognition and avoidance of work zones.
