22 University Researchers Move to Major AI Labs in 2026, Raising Open-Source Concerns
At least 22 professors and researchers from leading U.S. universities including Stanford, Berkeley and Harvard have taken leave or left outright in 2026 to join OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta and Google DeepMind. Some remaining faculty warn the departures could undermine the West's ability to build open-source AI models capable of rivaling China's.
