Moonshot AI, the Beijing-based startup behind the Kimi series, has unveiled Kimi K3, a 2.8-trillion-parameter model it bills as the world's largest open-weight AI system, marking the first time a Chinese open model has reached the frontier tier occupied by leading U.S. labs. The model became available around July 16, 2026, through Kimi's consumer app, Kimi Work, Kimi Code and the company's developer API, with full model weights slated for release by July 27.
