Rather than manually prompting AI coding agents one turn at a time, a design approach called "loop engineering" — running agents autonomously until a task is complete — drew rapid attention in the AI and software development community in June 2026. A blog post published June 7 by Addy Osmani, an engineering leader at Google, provided the central framing, and the idea is being discussed as a "new meta" that changes how leading coding agents such as Claude Code and the OpenAI Codex app are used.
