Amid the US-China race for AI supremacy, India is shifting its footing away from its traditional doctrine of strategic autonomy and toward the West. In February 2026 the two countries announced the U.S.-India AI Opportunity Partnership, and India formally joined the US-led AI and semiconductor supply-chain framework known as Pax Silica.
