xAI has released the full source code of Grok Build, its terminal-based AI coding agent, under the permissive Apache 2.0 license, opening up the internal machinery of a tool designed to compete with Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex. The move, announced on July 15, 2026, makes the command-line interface, terminal UI, and the entire agent harness and runtime available for anyone to inspect and extend via a public GitHub repository at github.com/xai-org/grok-build. The company paired the release with a reset of usage limits the same day.
