Meta Launches In-House Image Model "Muse Image"

Meta on July 7, 2026 released "Muse Image" (development codename Mango), the first dedicated image-generation model built by Meta Superintelligence Labs, and said it would be rolled into Meta AI, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Messenger. The move replaces, for the first time, image-generation features that had relied on outside models with an in-house one. According to reports, the model is immediately available through the Meta AI app and site, with a rollout to WhatsApp in some regions and to more than 30 Instagram Stories effects planned, while future creator- and advertiser-focused enhancements and a paid API are also under consideration.
