US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, in a letter dated June 26, 2026, determined that appropriate safeguards were in place for Anthropic's cybersecurity-focused AI model "Claude Mythos 5" and authorized access for more than 100 US "trusted partners," federal civilian agencies and national labs, and Anthropic's own non-US-citizen researchers. The letter, sent to the company's co-founder and chief compute officer Tom Brown, restores Mythos 5 access only for the covered organizations, while the general-purpose frontier model "Claude Fable 5" remains under restriction.
