Nonprofit Current AI Publishes 'Gap Map' Charting Weak Spots in the Open-Source AI Ecosystem

Current AI, a nonprofit partnership pledged to building a public-interest alternative to today's corporate-dominated AI, has released the first version of a "Gap Map" that surveys more than 24,600 open-source projects to expose where the ecosystem is thin, fragile or overly dependent on a handful of contributors. The tool is meant to serve as a roadmap for builders, funders and governments trying to strengthen an open AI stack that its backers describe, ambitiously, as a "World Wide Web of AI" that would be free for all.
