Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced on June 30, 2026 the creation of a new Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) organization backed by a $1 billion internal investment, deploying engineers to build and roll out AI agents inside customer companies. Thousands of engineers will embed with clients to co-develop purpose-built agents and push them into production within days to weeks. According to the official announcement, the team will initially form "pods" of roughly five to six people per customer, with self-sufficiency—the ability of a client's in-house engineers to run systems independently once the engagement ends—at the center of its design philosophy.
