Anthropic Hit With Class Action Over Claude Max Plan Usage Limits

Karl Kahn, a resident of Washington, D.C., filed a class-action lawsuit Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging that Anthropic's premium plans fail to deliver the Claude usage they advertise. According to the complaint, the case targets the $100-a-month "Max 5x" and $200-a-month "Max 20x" plans, which were marketed as providing five and twenty times the usage of the Pro plan, respectively, yet allegedly fall far short of that, with weekly limits described as opaque and hard to measure. Kahn says that after subscribing to Max 20x he reached his weekly cap within a few weeks, citing one five-hour sprint that consumed 15% of his weekly allowance. He calls the marketing fraudulent and seeks refunds for subscribers and class-action status. The case covers subscribers from April 2025 onward, and Anthropic declined to comment.
