The UN's Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence released its first report on July 1, 2026, assessing AI's opportunities, risks and impacts and warning of a widening "AI divide" between advanced economies and developing nations. The report will serve as the scientific foundation for the inaugural UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva on July 6-7. The preliminary report is positioned as an evidence-based assessment to support policymaking across countries. According to the UN announcement, the report will be updated annually, with the next edition planned for New York in 2027.
