An open-source project has been released that runs Anthropic's terminal-based coding tool "Claude Code" entirely on local AI models on Apple Silicon Macs, with no cloud API calls at all. Distributed on GitHub, claude-code-local ships an inference server built on Apple's MLX framework that emulates Anthropic's Messages API—including the tool-calling format with tool_use/tool_result blocks—so the official Claude Code CLI runs as-is, without an API key or cloud connection.
