A group of 26 current and former Meta employees has sued the company in federal court, alleging that its spring layoffs relied on internal artificial-intelligence systems that disproportionately cut workers with disabilities or those on protected medical and family leave. The plaintiffs

Output-based metrics were "biased by design" — penalizing those on leave or with reduced output due to disability. They seek an algorithmic audit, want the layoffs halted, and cite CA/NYC laws requiring bias testing of automated systems.

Meta's response

The company says the claims lack merit and are not grounded in fact. Workforce and organizational decisions, it stresses, were made by people — not by AI.
