Japan's government has decided to provide up to 1 trillion yen (about $6.2 billion) over five years starting in fiscal 2026 to a SoftBank Corp.-led consortium called Noetra, backing the development of homegrown AI foundation models. It will disburse 387.3 billion yen in the first year (fiscal 2026), expanding the amount in later years based on results.
