Billions of real-world scans that Pokémon Go players helped collect were used to train an AI model that could support location estimation for military drones, several UK and US outlets reported in June 2026. Behind the story is a plan by the spinout Niantic Spatial to deploy its geospatial model for drone and robot navigation through a partnership with the US defense and intelligence firm Vantor (formerly Maxar Intelligence).
