Hugging Face disclosed this week that it had detected and contained an intrusion into its production infrastructure that was carried out end-to-end by an autonomous AI agent system, in what the company describes as one of the first real-world examples of a fully agent-driven, multi-stage cyberattack. The AI platform published the account in a security incident disclosure dated July 16, 2026, framing the episode as a milestone in a threat scenario that the industry had anticipated but not previously confirmed in production.
