Microsoft is moving some user queries in Office apps such as Excel, Word and Outlook away from the OpenAI and Anthropic models it has relied on, toward its own "MAI models." According to reports including TechCrunch, tens of thousands of prompts per week are now handled by in-house MAI models, whereas much of that work previously ran on OpenAI and Anthropic systems. Microsoft declined to add further detail on the change.
