US steelmakers are warning that competition with AI data centers over electricity is threatening their operations. A new report from the Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) says surging data-center power demand is straining the grid and pushing steel companies' electricity costs up by "tens of millions of dollars a year," according to coverage of the report.
