NEC and U.S.-based Anthropic announced on June 11, 2026, that they will work with eight major Japanese financial institutions, including Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG), on a joint study to streamline financial operations, create new services and strengthen cybersecurity using the generative AI "Claude." Starting with the financial sector, where high safety and accuracy are required, the partners aim to advance trustworthy AI adoption and implementation toward what they call an "AI co-creation society."
