Australian dock union seeks 28-hour week, no pay cut, over AI

Australia's Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) demanded in early July 2026 that dock workers affected by port operator DP World's expansion of AI and automation have their working hours cut to 28 per week with no reduction in pay. The union argues the company must pay a "social dividend" that shares the gains from new technology with workers.
