NHTSA Orders AV Firms to Stop Blocking First Responders

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a public letter on July 8, 2026, demanding that companies developing and operating autonomous vehicles (AVs) immediately stop behavior that interferes with first responders such as police, fire and emergency medical crews.
