Ace, an autonomous table-tennis robot developed under Sony AI's research project "Project Ace," has defeated professional players under the official rules of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). The opponents it beat include several top-ranked professionals, among them Miyu Kihara, ranked in the mid-20s in women's singles. Rather than using a ball launcher or a simplified court, the matches took place in a formal competitive setting with certified umpires and human serves, making this reportedly the first time an autonomous robot has beaten professional-level players.
