The Federal Reserve Bank of New York said on June 1, 2026 that the post-pandemic spread of remote work is the main driver behind rising unemployment among young college graduates, while the impact of generative AI has been limited. The study, published on the Liberty Street Economics blog by Natalia Emanuel, Emma Harrington and Amanda Pallais, challenges the recent tendency to attribute weakening youth employment to a lack of AI skills.
