Seattle has built and tested a first-of-its-kind system that converts live 911 emergency calls into machine-readable geofences, allowing robotaxis and navigation apps to automatically route around police, fire and medical incidents. The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), with support from the University of Washington and software developed by Blue Systems, published results of the effort in a January 2026 report.
