Foreign direct investment (FDI) into India rose 44% year-on-year to $39 billion in 2025, and the main driver was the data center and AI hub Alphabet's Google is building in southern India, according to the latest World Investment Report from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). As Bloomberg reported, UNCTAD tallies the project at roughly $14.5 billion, making it the single largest factor lifting India's overall FDI. As a result, India rose to 11th place among FDI recipient countries.
