Thinking Machines Lab, the AI startup founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, has released Inkling, its first self-trained open-weight model, positioning it as the leading U.S. open-weights system and making it available for inference on Together AI and several other platforms. The launch marks the neo-lab's most concrete bet yet against a "one-size-fits-all" model strategy, betting instead that organizations will want models they can download, fine-tune, and run on their own terms.
